PKC seeks to attack the V:EKN
Squidalot wrote: Myrdin - it could be presumed that part of the reason for VTES having a possibility to be picked up is that sets can be designed and produced by an official fan body and then printed leading to a new revenue stream
That is true, which would make this whole conflict even more sad. Looking at options I don't see any scenario in which PKC's actions at the moment would mean to stabilize and strenghthen the game. Although they might see some solution which I'm missing.
If they don't approve of the VEKN they might just as well diverge from it, which in any case would not strengthen the game either. There is just no way to win this atm imho.
Sad things when there is more than enough sad times to spare.

This is mostly about proving that a VTES set makes money. If a fan-made, low-advertised, 'on the cheap' set, can make money (proper money) and that it's worth investing in. Or at the dead worst, we'll convince CCP/Hasbro that they can make some money off their IP without doing any real work than creating a licensing contract (which would be a few thousand dollars instead of half-a-million of investment).Myrdin wrote: In any case, the release of any eventual fan made expansion is not really necessary in any way. Personally I'd rather just stop the whole thing if it means that the game has a larger chance of getting published again and just not worry about it.

Sure there is. PCK could recind their CC copyright and allow the VEKN to proceed with their set unabated. They'll never, ever DO that, but they certainly COULD do that.Myrdin wrote: There is just no way to win this atm imho.
I'm fully aware that the trend in morality today is not to judge and to minimize bad behavior to the point that there is no "good", but don't fool yourself. There absolutely IS a solution here.
And, yes, technically there is *another* option here, but it'd destroy the Design Team, the play test team, the VEKN, and thereby the game itself, so I choose not to define that as a "solution".

totally not a lawyer here, but i'm pretty sure PCK can't copyright things that are already copyrighted. like vampires names as they're sourced elsewhere. i would also assume the discipline spread of a vampire is also sourced in White Wolf cannon as well. again, PCK seems to be trying to copyrighting its glorified alt/sash/fanfic.
honestly, the more i think about this, the more absurd it seems. seriously, why don't y'all show each other your penises and get to the heart of the matter?
