Change name of the game (from VTES into Vampire)
However, "branding" the card game as the "Vampire card game" is a good idea.
Few of my non-VTES-playng gamer friends knows what "VTES" stands for unless they've known me for a long time. The same goes for random people who approach our table when we're playing VTES at a gaming store. However, if you say "We're playing Vampire", little sparks of recognition go through their eyes.
VTES = blank stares
Vampire = vague recognition
Which of those two is more promising from a marketing point of view?

Yes, this is my central point — the game can be promoted as Vampire (even if legally it's Vampire: The External Struggle). Even on the back of the cards Vampire is far more prominent — it's just a case of reflecting that elsewhere as opposed to V:TES.
In the fastest growing Vampire scene (Poland by most accounts) V:TES is referred to as Vampire — sure it may be a coincidence, but it could also be a factor...
In terms of attracting new players — we would do far better to leverage Vampire as a keyword vs V:TES. Take the following search trends as an example: VTES vs Vampire Game
There's no shame in attracting people who are interesting in Vampires in general and associating the game closer to the word would help achieve that...

VTES (Vampire: The Eternal Struggle), formerly known as Jyhad.
If you have to explain what the name means I think you have already lost people's attention. Let them enjoy the crazy nuances of the game after they have a name for it. If you call it vampire and they have questions about what you mean, then they are engaged already.
Be careful when you fight the monsters, lest you become one.
