The first German language edition of Lone Wolf 1 (i.e. the extended version) has been nominated for the German RPC Fantasy Award, the German equivalent of an Origins Award.

The award is determined by us, the fans. We can vote for the German edition of Lone Wolf 1, titled Einsamer Wolf 1—Flucht aus dem Dunkel.

The winner and runners-up will be announced at the Role-playing Convention in Cologne on Sunday, April 18th. Joe Dever will be attending the show as a guest of Manticor Books, the German publisher of the Lone Wolf collector editions, so let's help Lone Wolf/Einsamer Wolf receive this award!

Annual Report 2009

In line with the previous two years, we at Project Aon have compiled an annual report, a brief retrospective of the work undertaken in the calendar year 2009. We also lay out a tentative roadmap for what we hope to achieve in 2010.

We get the text of the Lone Wolf books by scanning them and running the images through OCR software that converts the images to text files. The software isn't perfect. Part of the reason it takes us so blasted long to publish the books is the effort required to pick up after the OCR program.

Sometimes these scanning errors are amusing. This time, LeRoy McSwain caught one that makes perfect sense, and we wanted to share this with you. Can you spot what's wrong?

You spur your horse to the gallop and steer him towards the palisade. The guards see you bearing down and one of them panics and pees.(Mydnight's Hero, Section 189)

We toyed briefly with the idea of pretending we never found it and leaving it in the book, but good sense (regrettably) prevailed.

Nate Furman sent us a special treat. He says this sampler is what clinched the deal for him to illustrate The Plague Lords of Ruel for Mongoose. He wanted everyone to be able to enjoy it. (It won't be published with the Lone Wolf books because it has nothing to do with LW.)

When I acquired my copy of this rare tome, it was fetching insane sums on auction sites. (Actually, I bought someone's entire Lone Wolf collection to get my hands on this one book!) Checking again just now confirmed that nothing much has changed.

We at Project Aon are doing our best to bail out our fellow fans in these trying times. Now, if you can do without the aroma of paper and ink (or just can't wait for Mongoose to republish it), you don't need to break your budget in order to read the 22nd installment in the series.

Legends Republished!

Hot on the heels of the announcement of the Lone Wolf film project, we learn that Legends of Lone Wolf, the novelizations, will be republished! We can look forward to director's cuts—so to speak—of the novels in omnibus form beginning early next year.

Convergence Entertainment (”The King of Fighters”) has closed feature rights deals on a pair of franchise properties — “Gungrave” and “Lone Wolf.” Convergence is aiming to produce both projects as live-action features with budgets in the $30 million-$35 million range by tapping into financing sources from its strategic partners in Asia. Tim Kwok, the banner’s topper, will produce … while Andrew Lam will associate produce on “Lone Wolf.” … “Lone Wolf’s” based on a series of 28 game books published in the early 1980s and translated into 30 languages. On a personal note, as an American fan, I waited for years for gamebooks beyond The Curse of Naar to be published. I would stop in a bookstore once in a while to see if they had arrived yet. The New Order series has never arrived on American bookshelves. So I am happy to play a part in officially bringing this series to new lands after such a long wait.

Northern Magnamund Mapped!

The full-colour maps on the inside covers are what initially drew many to the Lone Wolf gamebooks. Joe Dever's well-realised world of Magnamund seemed so vibrant and colourful thanks to these masterful illustrations. Each map only covered a small area, though, and the detail was missing from the large-scale maps of Northern Magnamund.

Well, thanks to long-time Project Aon volunteer Jan Charvát, the whole of Northern Magnamund has finally been mapped based on the original artwork. Using the coastal outline of Northern Magnamund from the map in The Prisoners of Time as a starting point, Jan has masterfully combined all the other maps into one huge image, showing roads, settlements and labels from the original maps.

Since Project Aon does not host fan-based work, Jan has allowed it to be hosted on the site of another Project Aon volunteer so that other Lone Wolf fans can enjoy the results of his hard work. Hopefully this will help tide fans over until the release of Voyage of the Moonstone.

Addendum: Jan has also sent a map of Southern Magnamund in the same style, and also a composite map showing both continents! These images are absolutely fantastic, and Jan deserves a huge amount of kudos for managing to compile these!

It has been a long journey to get to this point, and I am gratified to recall the dedication and skill of my fellow volunteers as we have worked on Project Aon these past nine years. I am also pleased by all of the interest you have shown and support you have given. Thank you.

Never fear, we have more adventures yet to come. Our next publication will be Voyage of the Moonstone wherein one of Lone Wolf's star pupils is given the critical task of returning the Moonstone to the Isle of Lorn—assuming that you ensure Lone Wolf's success in wresting it from Naar's grasp in our current release: The Curse of Naar. As well as the usual download package, there is also a single-page edition without illustrations. For those who don't mind spoilers, or who have read the book a number of times, there is also an SVG flowchart showing all the numbered sections and links between them.

We're currently testing an impending release of Wolf's Bane. If you don't tell anyone that I told you, I'll let you in on a secret: you can get a sneak peak of the nearly finished book.

It's a little rough around the edges, so if you spot anything that needs fixing please do us the favor of telling us by commenting about it here or contacting us directly because more eyes spot the problems quicker. We will be publishing it sometime at the end of the month.
